San Ramon is a municipality located 90 miles north of Managua in the mountainous Matagala region of Nicaragua. Of its 36,000 residents, 30,000 live in remote hamlets and 6,000 live in San Ramon, a town with a health clinic, library, school, and municipal offices. People live largely by cultivating cash crops such as coffee, corn and beans, raising cattle, and practicing subsistence agriculture.
